Have you seen our new offering, Spotfire® Data Science? It combines the power of Spotfire industry visualizations with data science algorithms from Python, R, and Spotfire Statistica® to create the ultimate interactive user experience. Spotfire Data Science combines all the tools and personas needed for upstream energy exploration and production excellence.
The visual data science analysis highlights exploration insights, the tagging promotes between-persona collaboration, and the action-impact on production is clear. The new Spotfire Well Log Visualization (see Figure 1 below) is a centerpiece of this upstream visual data science experience. It can be configured to show gamma ray (GR) data side-by-side with lithology (VCL, VSILT), bulk volume water (BVWT), and total porosity (PHIT), thus elucidating regions with hydrocarbon concentration. Tracks for neutron porosity (NPHI) and RHOB (density) can be shaded in crossover regions to highlight pay zones as function of depth, along with resistivity (RD) data that adds evidence for the hydrocarbon regions.
The new Spotfire Well Log Analysis can show mobility test results and pressures (FPRES) as discrete points on top of the continuous data curves and highlighted regions. Individual tracks can be configured on different scales and with different gradient fill colors (e.g., the gamma ray track may be filled on a yellow-brown gradient, with darker brown colors indicating higher shale content).

Spotfire well log analysis combines E&P data and personas
Wish you could visualize all your well logs and related data in one interface? Now you can with unique, industry-specific visualizations from Spotfire. By combining deviation survey and production data with the Spotfire well log visualization, data scientists and geologists can understand how optimal drilling and completions strategies can generate more production. In this setting, wireline logs, formation tops, and petrophysical analysis are typically provided by geologists and petrophysicists.
By combining these data with completion intervals and deviation data / map data from the drilling and completions engineers, and production from the production engineers, a complete picture can be developed. This enables cross-functional teams to understand how production gains can be realized as the completion path traverses the underlying geology. Data scientists can also take horizontal slices across the well log data, above the pay zones, and estimate predictors of production from the well log measurements using DSML analyses. Under the hood, Spotfire® Data Virtualization provides a catalog of data views, while optimizing queries across multiple source systems. This means you and your team can get insights faster—while managing data models centrally for visual data science analysis.

New updates to the analysis
In summary, the new Well Log Analysis, specially re-designed for Spotfire Data Science, has been enhanced for applications across upstream energy user personas. The Spotfire Data Science add-ons include the well log visual analysis as part of the fly out panel, making it simple to access and add to your analysis. You can now easily combine and analyze multiple data sources and invoke well log analyses—no matter your expertise.
Geologists, business users, and stakeholders can now cruise around multiple data sources in one interface. No one has to go to a specialized subsurface package anymore. Spotfire can point, click, filter, and select between the map, the well logs, the deviation survey, and the production curves. This allows all stakeholders to get insights faster and to have all this data at their fingertips in Spotfire.
