Government: Spotfire Speeds Government Analysis
The Government is responsible for the nation's health, safety and defense, each of which has unique needs for powerful analytics in policy making, operational decision-making, and monitoring of activities on a national, international, and local basis. Spotfire's Government customers have the same needs as commercial enterprises for fast, intuitive, visual data analysis to drive strategic and operational decision-making.Spotfire’s unique, easy-to-use interface allows analysts to quickly visualize complex data sets. With Spotfire, analysts are decreasing the time they spend manipulating, collecting and federating data sources, and consequently are able to drastically increase the time they spend analyzing the data. Once novel trends or patterns are identified it’s easy for analysts to publish their results to an interactive web-based view, Microsoft Excel® or to automatically produce a Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation. DecisionSite also enables analysts to easily combine data from additional sources, add maps and imagery and even utilize statistical algorithms.
In addition, the Spotfire platform allows the rapid development of purpose-configured workbenches and analytic workflows. Previously, as experienced analysts left government organizations, important domain knowledge departed with them. But with Spotfire’s Guided Analytic capabilities, workers are able to capture the tacit knowledge and expertise of experienced analysts and reuse those critical techniques. The Guided Analysis feature allows workers to automate analysis workflows, spread best practices, and assist users in their work.
Spotfire analytics are used by numerous federal agencies including the FDA for health research and the FAA for transportation safety decision-making. In the areas of homeland defense and national security, the U.S. Government uses Spotfire to visualize and query an unprecedented mass of data. Intelligence analysts are able to use Spotfire analytics to browse, analyze, and search disparate data sources to find patterns, trends, outliers, and anomalies.
Under the terms of a strategic agreement with In-Q-Tel, the independent non-profit venture capital group funded by the Central Intelligence Agency, Spotfire software has been enhanced to integrate, analyze and visualize information from both text data mining tools as well as statistical tools - addressing the need to analyze large amounts of text and provide analysts with visual search and browse capabilities.
